Imperial Beach Residents Demand Action Amid Ongoing Sewage Crisis

For the residents near Saturn Boulevard in Imperial Beach, the smell of sewage has become a stark everyday reality—one that longtime local farmer Stephen Egger describes as a health hazard infiltrating their lives. Egger reminisces about the area's beautiful green pastures from years gone by, contrasting it with the current scene, where the stench reigns supreme and sleepless nights are common. The health impacts are evident too; Egger shares details of nightly headaches and chest congestion that plague families living by the polluted waters.

Despite recent promises from EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin about progress on several projects aimed at reducing sewage pollution, Egger and his neighbors feel these improvements are hardly keeping pace with the situation. They argue that more urgency is needed to restore their community, where generations have been affected by this crisis. Until then, they're left coping with an environment no one should have to endure, hoping for real solutions that will put an end to their smelly saga.

As the community waits for actions to match the promises, one can’t help but wonder: how long will they have to hold their breath?
