Carlsbad Trail Scare: E-Bike Assaults Leave Hikers on Edge

In a chilling episode from a beloved hiking spot, Carlsbad has found itself facing an unsettling situation as reports of sexual assaults have emerged from the Calavera Preserve. Felix Blanco, just 22 years old, is charged with seven counts of sexual battery for allegedly targeting women while riding his e-bike. Authorities say he would sneak up from behind and slap women, transforming an afternoon in nature into a moment of fear.

Earlier this month, Blanco was arrested after a victim reported the assault. He is no stranger to trouble; he previously faced similar charges last December. In a court hearing, Judge Adelaida Lopez ordered him to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from the alleged victims, underscoring the seriousness of the court’s stance on this unsettling behavior.

Some hikers have expressed relief at the arrest, though a cloud of fear still lingers. There's nothing like a peaceful stroll through nature, only to worry if someone is lurking nearby. It's a reminder that even in the most serene settings, safety should never be taken for granted. While the arrest is a step in the right direction, finding solace in nature should be a guaranteed right for everyone, not a privilege. Let’s keep those trails safe for all!
