Inmates in the Mail: Four Arrested in San Diego Drug Smuggling Operation

In a bizarre twist that feels like it's straight out of a crime novel, deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Office intercepted a scheme involving methamphetamine-soaked greeting cards sent to an inmate. The cards were meant for 33-year-old Kevin Ball, who had some high-stakes ideas about what to do with his mail. It turns out that 33-year-old Ajshanee Clariday is at the center of this operation, allegedly plotting with Ball on how to sneak in the substances without raising alarms.

Clariday didn't play the lone wolf; her accomplice, 55-year-old Fredrick Perez, was also identified as someone who helped with the preparation and mailing of these dubious deliveries. In a sort of "you-gotta-hand-it-to-them" moment, deputies executed a search warrant at a house in Chula Vista, leading to the arrests of both Perez and two others, Daniel Gracia and Luis Rios, bringing the total involved in this escapade to four.

With the seriousness of the allegations surrounding drug smuggling into jails, authorities are making it clear that this is not just a game. It’s a felony that could lead to six years in custody. It's a tough pill to swallow—and speaking of pills, maybe it's time to reconsider those birthday cards!
