Costco Rotisserie Chicken Lawsuit: Are Preservatives Hiding in Plain Sight?

A proposed class action lawsuit has surfaced against Costco, putting the retail giant’s beloved rotisserie chicken in the hot seat. The lawsuit, filed in San Diego federal court by two consumers, Anatasia Chernov and Bianca Johnston, claims the product is falsely advertised as containing “no preservatives.” However, they allege that the chickens actually include additives like sodium phosphate and carrageenan, leading customers to buy the product under misleading pretenses.

Chernov and Johnston contend that if they had known about these additives, they either wouldn’t have purchased the chicken or would have paid less for it. They're not just looking for a refund—they're claiming that Costco might have cheated consumers out of millions with its marketing approach. The plaintiffs’ attorney, Wesley M. Griffith, summed it up well: people rely on clear claims, especially when it comes to food choices. As he asserted, the ingredient list contradicts the marketing claims, raising serious questions about consumer trust.

As this case unfolds, it brings to light a larger conversation about the transparency of food labeling. In a world where people are becoming increasingly conscious about what they eat, can we trust the labels on our favorite food items? After all, nobody wants a side of scandal with their chicken dinner!
